PCB Renewed Contracts But There’s Bad News For Hafeez And Malik

PCB Renewed Contracts for Players

The performance of Pakistani players has been questioning in the whole World Cup 2019. People were shocked at the very basic level cricket the team played in the mega tournament. What was even more shocking was that the matches that were lost weren’t even against the tough teams. And the players were chosen by PCB after very thorough consideration. However, still they were unable to be consistent throughout the matches. So it was a very disappointing situation for the board and the public.

Among the most senior ones in the team were Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez. They had been a part of team Pakistan since a very long time. Also have given their best years to the cricket. But when the nation needed them the most, they weren't able to perform. Which is why their existence in the team became questionable. With Shoaib Malik leaving the field twice with a zero on his record.

Everyone was demanding that the performance of both the legends have become incompetant. So they should be excluded from the team.

Public demand met with PCB’s decision. As both the senior players have been found to be excluded from the list provided from the selection committee recently. This list includes 19 players who will be in contract with PCB for 2019-20 tournaments.

The selection committee was comprised of three PCB directors — Zakir Khan (International), Haroon Rasheed (domestic) and Mudassar Nazar (Academies). The outgoing coach of Pakistani team Mickey Arthur has also given his input on the selection of these 19 players. However, a new selection committee is yet to be formed.

New players will also be inducted in the team later. And a central contract will be given to a fair number of players who will be representing in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

What seems to be the goal of PCB through this list is to give chance to new talent. As it has been proved in the World Cup 2019 tournament that the new talent have been proved to be more valuable in current times. Than the senior ones.

Another notable development in PCB this season is that the board now believes more in quality and not quantity. Because the team that comprised 33 players previously has now been shortlisted to 19 players. Which is a huge difference.

So it wasn’t just Malik and Hafeez who were delisted. There were thirteen other players too. Junaid Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Rahat Ali, Saad Ali, Usman Salahuddin, Hussain Talat, Asif Ali, Mir Hamza, Bilal Asif, Umaid Asif, Mohammad Nawaz, Sahibzada Farhan, and Rumman Raees.

PCB managing director said, ““The PCB has set high standards and targets in its strategic plan for the upcoming season. We want to attach a high value to receiving a central contract. We have complete faith and confidence that these players will set-up and produce on-field performances that will help us collectively achieve our objectives and targets.” Click here for latest cricket news
